The House That Vintage Built

Nathan spent the day with me at Vintage House again and helped me take photos of a few of my favorite pieces of clothing from the store.

This mu-mu is great and compliments my dark hippie look but it is far too long for my short frame, unfortunately. It is also kinda see-thru but that adds a sexy appeal lol!

I plan on buying this cute blouse. Nathan loved it on me.

This coat was a gift from Karla, the store owner.

I wasn't crazy about it at first but when I put it on I fell in love!! It is so cute.

There was something about this mod dress that just ached to be tried on. It was a bit small for me but I like the collar and bow detail.

This was my favorite dress to try on. I love it. I was also going for a Kinder-whore look here. It is really flattering on me and I just might buy it.

Nathan liked the messy pig tails.

Strange House

Friday Friday Friday was a blur.
My friends came in from San Antonio. I finished my zine Mystical One. My music video for "In Reverie" was premeired at the Sorin Reel Film Festival and I went to see The Horrors at Emo's.

Did I mention that I went home to San Antonio after the show? Well I did. And nothing really happened except I spent time with a few friends.

Mystical One turned out really well I thought. I want to thank Abraham for lending me the money to produce the copies. I distributed them at the film festival. I'm taking orders so let me know if you want a copy. They are free but I'm charging for postage if I can't hand them to you physically. I might also think about scanning it and posting it somewhere.

I'm still not sure how I feel about my second submission to the Sorin Reel Film Festival. None the less I want to thank everyone who helped me work on it.

Meeting The Horrors and taking pictures with them was surreal. They are so charming in person. They were all very polite and posed for several pictures. All the songs they played were from the new album. We asked them why they didn't play any old stuff and they simply replied, "Because we didn't want to." Faris scolded someone in the crowd for requesting a song, but I thought it was a little funny.

I wasn't too excited to see The Kills perform. They're just not my type of band. So we left after a few of their songs and walked around downtown. It was a bad idea.
I think I almost saw someone die of an overdose. It was a bit scary.

We headed back to Emo's and waited around for the bands to come out and give autographs. We ended up only catching Spider Webb, Coffin Joe, and Faris Badwan. It was fine though. We were all tired and ready to start the drive back to San Antonio.

My favorite moment of the night was taking a group picture with The Horrors and speaking with Rhys. He and Tomethy are my personal favorites.

I just wish we could have danced wildly to songs like "Sheena Is A Parasite" or "Gloves". Maybe one day.

Don't Let It Rot

Keep San Antonio Lame.

I went home on Wednesday. (missed a show)

Saw my niece for the first time on Thursday. (so precious)

Becca-Bear spent time with Frank and I on Thursday night. (we hatched a plan)

Friday morning found us at a young man's house dropping off a letter and some gushers. (there are so many gems in San Antonio)

Frank and I hit up 3 thrift stores before the sun went down. (we were exhausted)

That night we headed to The Gig to watch Marcus Rubio and the Gospel Choir of Pillows. (possibly one of the best local bands)

Frank, Becca-Bear, and I traveled there together and met up with a young fellow by the name of Nathan. (he's something of a legend)

In the end we all got what we wanted.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

San Antonio will try and crush you. And once you leave you can never return. Things are not the same when you come back.
It makes you realize how good it is to be gone.

Spring Break 2009 is upon us. And by us I mean every school in Austin, Texas.

In a few days I will be attending any free/all ages show I can get in. I only plan to spend money on food and the American Apparel Flea Market that's going on for most of the week.

Updates from me are few and far between. That's because there is not much going on.

I spent the weekend in San Antonio. I attended an event called Luminaria. I hung out with my friends. I thrifted for a second. And I realized that the city that gave birth to me will one day be the city that kills me.

You literally have to fight your way out of San Antonio.

I don't know how I feel about posting my SXSW schedule on here. Does anyone really care what shows I'm going to attend?
Also...I don't want to set anything in stone. I might not go to some of the things I plan on attending. Shit happens.

What I did today: Sold clothes at Buffalo Exchange, Bought a kite that looks like an eagle, made rice crispy treats, baked a pizza, spent time with Kelsey, shared laughs with Andrew and Sabra, bought a new cat vest!!!

Future Husband:

Tim Roth as Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs.
I like his fake accent. He fooled me.
I've seen his new TV show Lie To Me. I like it!

It's The Only Thing That Makes You Good

I spent the weekend in San Antonio. I hung out with my friends and spent time with family. It was nice. The best part though was the thrift shopping.

Here are some of the things I found at Goodwill:

Robby made this. He let me have it when I stayed the night at his house. I'm going to turn it into a pin.

Future Husband:

Michael Pitt as Tommy Gnosis in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
I love when he sings his version of "Wicked Little Town".

I think I'm done with the Future Husband posts. I've finally run out. I have only one left.

Teenage Lovers Between The Sheets

While in San Antonio last week I bought an unusual instrument from the thrift store near my old house. It was Black Friday so everything was 50% off. I purchased a kantele and sheet music for $15. I didn't know what it was at first but my friend and I did some extensive research and we found that it was a Finnish instrument with a mythological background. Pretty cool. I sold it to Rebecca for her band JEN. She really wanted an auto harp because it's huggable but the kantele can totally be hugged.

I've wanted to direct a music video for Jason Castro ever since I won Be Your Own Pet's video contest this past summer. He currently has no "official" music video or album. I just can't see Jason in an expensive music video. He's so modest and humble. I could see something low key and independently directed. And who better to direct his first video than a fan of his music.

If I could choose I would create a video for his new song "Shine Your Light" or "Love Uncompromised"

I've already made up in my mind what this video would look like.

Future Husband:

Bud Cort in the film Harold and Maude.
He has the creepy sort of cuteness in the movie.
I think his character made me fall in love with the macabre.
As a result, I made my parents rent me a hearse for my 17th birthday and for my Prom.

Shine Your Light When Things Start To Look Dim

When wood is broken it can never be repaired.
You can try and glue the pieces together but they will always be fragmented and weak.
Holidays are wasteful and hurtful. They really test the strength of a family.
I went home to San Antonio for Thanksgiving. I really wanted to go to Tulsa for the weekend.
That didn't happen. But it's okay because I got to spend time with my old friends who I hadn't seen in so long. And I was able to catch some great live music and do a little thrift shopping.
I don't know when I'll be back in San Antonio or if I'll ever go back.
Maybe I'll be back to visit friends. I just feel as though I have no place there.
I can never go back home because home is where the heart is and mine is broken.

Even though I didn't get to attend Jason Castro's concert in Tulsa I was able to see it all happen through a live feed via the internet.
It was magical and he truly inspires. He's inspired me to shine my light as bright as I can.

I've been bewitched by the Polyphonic Spree song "Hold Me Now". Give it a listen and I dare you not to feel good afterward.

Wunderkind of note: Marcus Rubio

I caught his act this week and was very pleased by his performance. I hope to one day direct a music video of his. Or maybe he could score a short film of mine. He really makes the San Antonio music scene look good.

Future Husband:

Stephen Colbert
I first fell for him as Chuck Noblett in Strangers with Candy.
Truth be told he is married, but everyone needs a mistress.
And he still teaches Sunday School every week.

Let Your Fiber Show

Ugh. I can't register for classes until I pay the educational vampires that I call St. Edward's University.
I miss Frank and his scarf Fibrola. Seriously, she was like the best scarf EVER. And she only ever looked good with his mystical Unicorn tee.
If you ask someone if they are the Devil, and they freak out...chances are they're the Devil.

My new style icon might be Mickey Mouse ...or Luke Skywalker. I've seen someone around campus wearing a Yoda backpack. And a Chewbacca backpack.

Possible travel locations: Tulsa this Thanksgiving, Dallas in December, Marfa next May, London a year from now.

I will never be a wunderkind.

When I am older I will start a recycling center in San Antonio, Texas. It will be like The Free Store of Haight-Ashbury. People will be able to donate their unwanted items and take anything they want for free. I'm not sure how I will pay the bills with this recycling center but I know it is exactly what San Antonio needs. Maybe I will rent space out for events and live music and charge an entrance fee in order to keep the free store running.
Comment me if you are interested in starting a free store in San Antonio. Austin is too advanced for this kind of thing even thought it might work better.

Magic? I'll show you magic.
