I'm Not Sick But I'm Not Well

(photo taken by me when I pretend to be a photographer 2009)

I'm 100% again.
I'm not sneezy-watery eyes-runny nosed anymore. Yes!
I woke up this morning and I was feeling fine.
Actually I went to sleep this morning (er was it yesterday) and woke up before class started and I was a-okay.

I was healthy enough to judge the ImprovOFF. I don't have much to say about it. Let's just say we need to work on our Improv skills as a university. Improv does not mean getting up on stage and yelling, doing slapstick, or making offensive gestures. I wasn't offended by any of the performances but I wasn't amused.
Being a judge was a lot harder than I thought. There was a lot of Math involved.

Then I went to my friend Andrew's play reading. I am assistant directing it. Or am I Assistant to the Director? Ah who knows! Alls I know is I'm getting my name on a program.

In more Hanson related news, Taylor Hanson has a side project. :O
Yeah....I'm as shocked as you are. And if you don't know who Taylor Hanson is then what are you even doing reading this blog?!
Well he's in a band with the guitarist from Smashing Pumpkins, that dude from Fountains of Wayne, and the drummer from Cheap Trick. Yeah....that's what I said. :O
His band is called Tinted Windows.

It looks pretty legit. Yet the Hanson fan in me (the Fanson if you will) wants to cry out blasphemy! It sounds like a different band yet all I can hear is Taylor, so I think Hanson. But it's not....anyway they will be unveiling themselves during none other than South by South West, the music festival that started Hanson. How ironic. I will try and attend even though they will only be performing at an official showcase and the venue is 21+.
I want to try and recreate this rare moment in history where I met my idol of over 10 years.
This photo was taken last year at SXSW and I was 19 years old. The only other time I was that happy was when I met Jason Castro. Ahhh the memories...

Have a listen to Tinted Windows and tell me what you think.

And if all the world was perfect, I would only ever want to see your scars

the japanese know how to pack a cute lunch!

Still sick. What's new?

I read the book The Doctor's Wife for my Japanese Women's Literature class. It was a good read. Hard to put down and I recommend it.
I'm currently reading Masks for the same class. It's a little harder to read but kinda interesting.
The Japanese culture is very mystical as a whole.
I quite enjoy Stephen Colbert's take on the Shinto religion. He likens it to that of Pokemon.
I'm just going to put this out there...If I were a Pokemon I would be Snorlax...or Gloom.
Especially right now.

I've also been reading Stephen Colbert's book I Am America (And So Can You). It's hilarious.

I have to give an informative speech in my Presentational Speaking class on Monday. I think I'm going to inform my class on Chip-tune music. I think it's going to be an interesting subject to give a speech on. We'll see how that one goes.

I have also agreed to be a judge at my school's improv comedy night on Monday. I hope I'm well enough by then because I don't want to be all "Paula Abdul" up there, slurring my speech and drooling.

In more hair related news, I will be getting a trim this week. My hair has grown out to a disgusting length and needs to be tamed. I don't really have a style in mind, I just need it out of my face.

I started watching this season's Amazing Race because Mike White and his father Mel are on the show. They are father and son who are both writers and Gay. I thought Mike White was Bi but on the show he clearly states that he is Gay. His father Mel is also a pastor for a GLBTQ church! I'm also rooting for Team Luke and Margie. Luke is deaf and his mother, Margie, is his translator. The best moment of the first episode for me was when the show's host signed to Luke and Margie that they were in 1st place for that part of the competition!!!

Come And Get Me Outta This Town Oh Now, Come And Save Me

I have always been and will always be inspired by POGS.

I hate shopping malls.
I had to be in one today and it was terrible.
On top of that I'm still very sick.

I've created a new blog. It's not for people to read.
It is a place where I can save my research material that I have to gather for a class.
Feel free to look at it when I have some things on there but it really won't mean anything to you if you haven't seen or read The Pajama Game.

All Homework, All Weekend = Gross.

I am annoyed by all this talk of Fashion Week. Since when does EVERYBODY and their mom care about fashion and style?! I mean c'mon. It seems that everyone theses days wants to be a fashion designer or stylist. It's a lot harder than it looks by the way. I know shows like Project Runway make it all seem so easy but it's not American Idol people. You can't just sew a bunch of fabric together, put it on your anorexic friend, take a bunch of "avant garde" pictures, and call yourself a designer.

It would be the same thing as snapping a bunch of pictures with your digital camera and calling yourself a photographer.

wtf?! c'mon!

Anyway...on with my rant. Maybe I'm just really tired of reading people's reviews of Fashion Week and what designers sent down the runways. Maybe I'm annoyed because it's not even about the clothes anymore. It's about who's wearing them, and who's at the show, and who's at the after party, and who's the Dj. Some designers are celebrities, and rightfully so, but it has recently become trendy to want to work in the fashion industry.

I guess it's all these reality shows on TV that give people the impression they can just show up and give the camera some attitude and you'll be successful.

When did we all forget about hard work?

I just want to scream at those magazines and blogs, "Don't Tell Me What To Wear!!"

Here's another old photo of myself that I never published anywhere.
My hair is quite long and I'm wearing my old cat eye glasses and a mars volta t-shirt.
In the background you can see a poster that reads:
Carol never wore her safety glasses. Now she doesn't need to. I'm going to estimate my age at 16 or 17 years old.

I'm Not Where I Want to Be

I'm sick :(
I think it might be allergies.
My whole face hurts and feels stuffed.

I bought Savage Garden's CD "Affirmation" on eBay today for under $3. It made my day a little better.

I read a few articles about Crystal Castles and some interviews with Alice Glass the other day. Some things she said really stuck with me. She said that if people didn't spend so much money on clothes and just made what they had work, then they would look a lot better. She also confessed to wearing her grandmother's hand me down clothes and stuff from used clothing warehouses.
It definitely made me think twice about all the clothing purchases I've made and how much money I wasted on clothes I hardly ever wear.

I've already decided that I'm going to save a lot of my clothing to give to my future children or use it as part of my personal costume stock.

Fashion is cyclical so anything that is in style now is bound to be fashionable in the future.

this is a really old picture of me taken by my friend frank
i never posted this anywhere but I think now is a good time
judging from my haircut and glasses I was 17 or 18 years old

Never Sleep...You're Just Giving In

One of the best music videos I've seen in a long time.
Fever Ray "When I Grow Up" (the singer is Karin from The Knife)

Favorite Crystal Castles song:
"Tell Me What To Swallow"

I've been looking at music videos a lot more analytically now since I will be directing one soon. I would love to make more than one video but I don't think time permits.

Future Husband:

Stefan Olsdal of Placebo
I fell in love with him when I saw Placebo on the Projekt Revolution Tour.

If you need to crash then crash and burn you're not alone

Crystal Castles anyone?

photo taken by me during SXSW '08
April 13th La Zona Rosa Austin, Texas
I bought my ticket yesterday as soon as I found out.

Recent thrift purchases:

2 Dior V-neck sweatshirts

Huge lot of yarn for only $10

Black Net Shirt

Mustard V-neck Sweatshirt

3-D Dreamcatcher

I decided that the only way I could wear this cotton candy pink Dior sweater was with a Fruits/Harajuku outfit. I threw this look together with stuff in my closet that I never wear.
I don't think anyone could take me seriously looking like this so maybe this style isn't for me.

heart glasses: gift from bekah
pink Dior sweater: thrifted
ice cream necklace: self-made
fur koala face purse: borrowed from my aunt
plastic strawberry purse: flea market
polka dot minnie mouse skirt: costume shop

Myself Is So Bad Ass Myself Is So Good

I have been sucked into this internet world.
I have become a digital version of myself.

This is a Mii I made of myself on Marg's old-roommate's Wii.
I had more fun making the Mii than playing the video game.

I have been spending wayyyy too many hours in front of my laptop watching videos on youtube, blogging, reading blogs, searching for weird stuff on eBay, and attempting homework.

Recently I've become very inspired by the Australian pop/rock duo Savage Garden. I really can't explain why or how but it just happened. And now I will start a quest to find both of their CD's at the thrift store. I know I've come across at least one of their CD's while thrifting. I also hope to find a Savage Garden t-shirt as well. That would be ultimate! Oh and I plan on documenting this quest.

If you don't believe in their awesomeness then check out this video for the 90's love song "To the Moon and Back". This is also my favorite of the 3 versions there are of this video.

Take note of the rad outfits and cheesy special effects in the video. Also the lead singer gets a little too dramatic with his hand gestures. But besides all that I adore the video and the song.

How did my day go?
Well I pretty much didn't have any class, I played with my friend Candy's chinchilla, met with my Entrepreneurship group, attended open mic night, and had a delicious dinner. Pretty good day if you ask me. It could have been wayyyy worse.

Your Dreams And Your Hopeless Hair

I was watching the music video for Savage Garden's song "Crash 'n' Burn" and I noticed that at the end of the song Darren signs the lyrics instead of singing them, then the words "Communicate Any Way Any How" appear on the screen. I thought it was a really cool message he was sending.

Then I thought it would be really cool to become a sign language interpreter at concerts.

So today while I was running errands at the grocery store I thought to myself "how cool would it be if I heard a Savage Garden song on the speaker system" and sure enough "The Animal Song" came on. I started smiling because I couldn't believe the coincidence.
As I was exiting the grocery store I saw a couple communicating with each other through sign language. I stared at them for a bit just to make sure I understood what they were doing.

I took these coincidences as a sign.

My hair is getting longer and longer. I still have not cut it and maybe I should.
I'm trying to get back to my original hair do' from childhood. Here is my hair inspiration!

It's kind of ridiculous right?!

Future Husband:

Slim Twig as "Billy Zero" in The Tracey Fragments
Wasn't he just a little asshole in that movie.
I would marry the Billy Zero that existed in Tracey's mind :)
He was this totally awesome guy who becomes her savior and then when she really gets with him he's a total douche. Ugh! I know how that feels.

I Believe That God Does Not Endorse TV Evangelists

I recently bought my brother this button:

So he can get extra nerd points at the premiere of Watchmen.

And I'm bidding on a birthday present for him as we blog.
If you want to see what it looks like just google "Jabba Glob" and you will find out for yourself.
I was inspired to buy this present whilst reading MCR's blog. I love how oftend it is updated.
Or maybe I just love updated blogs.

I also recently had an idea for vlogging for a post instead of writing.
Maybe a video would be a really cool change of pace.

I've recently been inspired by the gay/lesbian/transgender/queer culture. Frank introduced me to the band Cocorosie and I was impressed with there mystical and androgynous style.
I've also been watching a lot of youtube videos of trannies and funny gay boys (Britney Houston, Tyler Oakley). And while browsing blogs I "stumbled" upon East Village Boys. The site is part homo-erotic photography and part artsy news blog. Very cute and very inspiring.

I'm still really into finding cool Christian music. Sarah showed me this song by Closer 2 Closure called "Rhyme or Reason". Another song by the same singer (Kellin Quinn) is called "Jesus in the Southern Sky". They are both really really beautiful and inspiring songs. Check them out if you're into that stuff.

I think it's safe to say that I am tired of the generic vintage clothing websites on Ebay. They only cater to girls of the same size and shape. And all the models look like they work at Urban Outfitters or Buffalo Exchange. The clothes are all too overpriced and very cliche'. What they are selling you is the "look" and not the actual clothing. You have to go out and buy all the accessories just to get what you paid for.

I'm trying to open my own online store soon and I'm definitely taking notes on what not to do.

Style Icon:

Diva Dompe
She's in the band BlackBlack.
She has some of the best stage outfits and hair.
And she's a very lovely mystical being.

Future Husband:

Mike White
He wrote and directed "Year of the Dog".
He also wrote "The Good Girl" and "Chuck and Buck".
I think he's just awesome.

We Are In Our Purest Forms

Today was a good day.
"they exist to give you something to regret, ill give them that."

I presented my shoe project in my Costume Design class this afternoon and it went well :)
I didn't think I would get such good feedback.
Today I was working on a neck ruff for the play Cyrano.
I hope to have it finished soon.

I have noticed that a lot of people are really into the mystical, majestic, and magical type of clothing lately. I have seen lots of American Indian inspired outfits and t-shirts around. Also a lot of natural and new age jewelry. Could this mystical thing be catching on?
I think so.

I don't know how i feel about the "25 Random Things About Me" note on Facebook. I am divided. I don't know if I hate the idea or if I hate the idea because everyone else is doing it.
And because NY Times wrote an article about it.
I just don't think I would be writing these things for the right reasons. I would be writing stuff to try and impress my friends on Facebook. And people already know a whole bunch of random stuff about me.

Things I want to do soon: photo shoot with Jen/Rebecca/Ingrid, create a zine, hand-made valentines day cards, knit something worthwhile, make a t-shirt of myself, self portraits, add to my youtube channel, general crafting, add to my online shop, etc.

Make Time Each Day To Pray

i miss you old friend... i can't wait to hear good things from you.

you know that feeling you get when you fall asleep in the middle of the day and you wake up and it's night already and you feel like you just wasted the WHOLE day?!!
yeah i got that.
the only way to redeem yourself is to get out of bed and do two nights worth of homework in one night.

I made a shoe for my Costume Design recently. It's made of foamy clay and looks like a jaw bone with teeth and a chicken bone heel. I'm not too proud of it. I imagined it would be a lot cooler.

i have never wanted to live in california as much as i do now. or as much as i will when coachella rolls around. this years lineup is pretty epic. it's better than last years ACL and probably this years SXSW combined.

i went out to a party this weekend. it was weird and so uncommon of me. so much so that people were surprised to actually see me there. it was a birthday party for my friend kenny. it was also civil war themed. possibly one of the coolest themed parties recently. i had a decent sober time.

I've been learning to knit recently. Just the other day I bought a proper pair of knitting needles and some brightly colored yarn. I tried to find good yarn at the thrift store but I wasn't about buying for color over texture. And I thought about unraveling a sweater with good yarn but that takes time and I wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good sweater to make something dumb like a plain scarf. And a beginner's scarf at that.

I wish I had some cool yarn like this.

I don't want to knit lame things like shawls and blankets....unless they are rad of course.
My knitting hero is Twinkie Chan. She makes the most awesome knit/crochet accessories.

Future Husband:

ok so if i were a tranny...i'd marry Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters
there are a lot of gay or questionable men on my list of "future husbands". i have no other way to explain that except that i just really like gay guys!!
oh and by the way i'd be a voodoo shaman tranny that wore heels made of bone and hair.
just thought i'd throw that in.
