Alamo Wasteland

I'm back where I started. San Antonio, Texas home of the lame. I will be living here for the next four months and then it's back to Austin when school starts. I must confess that I'm not too excited to be back home but I will have to endure.
San Antonio as some of you may know is not all boring and dull. We do have some fun things going on from time to time but not nearly enough to keep boredom away.
My favorite part of SA though is the thrift stores. We have lots of them and most of them are real gems. Most of my wardrobe is from the thrift stores around town and I plan on keeping it that way. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy anymore clothing but that doesn't mean I can't buy clothing for someone else.
So my newest project but hardly a new idea is to scour local thrift stores around town and find the best clothing and accessories in order to sell them online for a profit. I will also be documenting my finds in a video-blog and in photographs. I share a youtube channel with two of my friends. It's called Awkwardly Social. It is supposed to encompass how weird and relate-able we can all be but on video. It's also just an excuse to have our own channel.
But for the most part I plan on showing everyone how cool San Antonio can be for a change.
Austin has been taking the spotlight most recently and I just want to prove to others and myself that the city I come from is just waiting to be named the new city of cool. You just have to look.

Meet Me In SXSW...

So the sxsw website finally announced the showcase for this years music lineup and I'm glad to see some of the names on it. Below is a list of bands that I'm either excited to see for the first time or will have the pleasure of viewing again. I know more bands will be added later but I'm already planning my show schedule by the listings at showlistaustin.com

And the nominees for bands Kat will most likely see during south-by....
(in no particular order)

Be Your Own Pet (Nashville TN)
The Blow (Portland OR)
Care Bears on Fire (Brooklyn NY)
Crystal Castles (Toronto ON)
Hanson (Tulsa OK)
I Was A Cub Scout (Lincoln UK)
Mika Miko (Los Angeles CA)
Portugal The Man (Wasilla AK)
The Redwalls (Chicago IL)
Simian Mobile Disco (London UK)
Turbo Fruits (Nashville TN)

Heres hoping most of the bands on this list play free shows. Badges are out of the question but wristbands are a maybe.
I have a feeling this Valentine's Day will be a bore. I made my own cards for my friends with catchy V-day puns. I planned on seeing my favorite movie Harold and Maude at the DraftHouse but then decided against it because the price for tickets was a whopping $75! i know, pretty pricey but they are serving a 5 course meal.
Good News! I finally got a checking account so that means that the Etsy shop Ingrid and I are starting will be up soon and I plan on selling vintage clothing on ebay as soon as my credit card comes in the mail.

There's A Crimewave Coming

One of my newest obsessions, Crystal Castles, will be in Austin during SXSW on the 13th, 14th, and 15th. I really hope I get to see them at least once while there here. I'd also like a shirt of there's or a vinyl. My roomie ING and I are started an Etsy shop called Recycled Raptors. We are going to sell repurposed items, recycled materials, and found goods. It is just a side project that encompasses all the ideas we've been having. Swap-bot pretty much owns my life right now. My classes are not too difficult and the hardest class I have is Drawing if you can believe it. Trust me, it is not as easy as it seems I found out.

What I'm into right now: Geek Fashion, Loud Colors, Native American Style, Garbage Jewelry, Hand-Made Tees, V-necks, Floral Dresses, Wild Fabric, Ancient Egypt, Keds style sneakers, Street Style, Overstuffed Tote Bags

Swappers Delight

My life is currently consumed by swap-bot.com. All I care about is joining new swaps, sending my packages out, and receiving things in the mail. School is still first on my list of priorities, but swapping is a close second. At the moment I am the host of 3 swaps. Harold & Maude Lovers, Wes Anderson's World, and Juno (letters to Paulie). I have a few more swap ideas in mind as well but I'll save those for a time when the site is in need of good swaps. For now I will continue to work on the many swaps I'm participating in as well as hosting.
If you have lots of time on your hands, a creative touch, and a little disposable income, then I welcome you to join Swap-bot.com.
Oh, you should also join if you love to get stuff in the mail.

New Home

I finally buckled down and got a blogspot. I am such a sell out. My old blog home was myspace. Everyone else was doing it, why can't I?
Well hopefully this blog will fill the void that Myspace and Facebook could not. I decided to abandon both of those sites in order to concentrate on schoolwork. From now on I will only be checking my e-mail (personal and school) , my Swap-bot, and now this. I also keep myself updated on thecobrasnake.com and hel-looks.com but those are not as frequent. My myspace and facebook will only be checked on Saturdays. I'm going to concentrate more on my writing and swaps. Change is good, for the most part.
